Let’s talk sugar scrubs! Sugar scrubs are so fun because the possibilities are endless, and lord knows, I love a good homemade grapefruit scrub for the shower (which supports healthy skin & smells like a dream!!).
Grapefruit Body Scrub:
1 cup of sugar (white or brown) + 1/4 cup of oil (coconut, almond or jojoba)+ 10-15 drops of essential oil.
Orange Body Scrub:
1 cup of brown sugar + 1/4 cup of sweet almond oil (from target or amazon) + 10 drops of Orange essential oil.
Orange Lip Scrub:
2 tbsp brown sugar + 1 tbsp whipped coconut oil + 5 drops Orange essential oil. Apply to dry lips to exfoliate & rejuvenate. Leave on lips for 30 seconds & wipe with a dry towel.
Peppermint Coffee Scrub:
3 tablespoons finely-ground coffee + 2 tablespoons coconut oil + 1 tablespoon sugar + 10-15 drops Peppermint
Scoop a small amount into palm and emulsify between damp hands; massage into skin with circular motions using light to moderate pressure paying special attention to problematic areas. Leave on for 5-10 minutes then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Using these ratios, you can pretty much make any kind of sugar scrub using things you have on hand. You can use white sugar or brown, almond oil or coconut oil, and the essential oils of your choice. A few of our favorite combos are: Orange + Stress Away, Lavender + Geranium OR Grapefruit + Peppermint. These make easy gifts, you can triple the recipe and make a few smaller mason jars to give to teachers, mamas, etc. Please note to avoid peppermint if nursing and to avoid citrus oils on skin before spending time in the sun.
We absolutely love oils & believe that every family should have them. If you don’t already use oils & want to get learn more, you can read more over here! In this post, I talk about Our Everyday with Essential Oils and to find any of the carrier oils or containers mentioned above, it is all covered here in our favorite oily swag.
