As the holiday season ( feasts season) starts ramping up, I just have one question for ya….do you prefer turkey, ham, or neither?
No matter the choice, one thing is for sure…when it comes to ANY sort of cooking, I love using essential oils in the kitchen!

If you’ve never cooked with essential oils before, then read on to learn the basics, and get some easy recipe ideas

I prefer using oils over dried spices in many circumstances. Dried herbs have lost most, if not all of their essential oils, which is where the magic lives, while essential oils retain their therapeutic benefits. You do loose some benefit while cooking oils at high temperatures, but the flavor still remains. One thing I have learned through cooking with essential oils is that adding Lemon Vitality to pretty much ANY dish will boost its flavor profile significantly.

Commonly used Vitality oils in the kitchen include citrus oils like Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, and Tangerine, and savory oils like Cumin, Carway, Cilantro, Basil, Black Pepper, Dill, Fennel, Lavender, Ginger, Marjoram, Oregano, Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Coriander, Nutmeg, Celery Seed, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage, Spearmint, Peppermint, Tarragon, and Thyme Vitality.

How to Use Essential Oils in Cooking:

Baked Goods: Add to batters just before baking (typically 3-6 drops)

Beverages: Add 3-8 drops of oil to a pitcher of water, juice, or carbonated drink. Add some honey to help disperse the oil; otherwise it will just rest on the top.

Sauces and dips: Simply mix in with your dish and enjoy. The possibilities are endless!

Fish, poultry, and other meats: Get creative! Add to soups, marinades, glazes, and sauces.

Must Try Recipes:

Egg Nog: Add 1 toothpick swirl each of Nutmeg, Cinnamon Bark, Orange and Clove Vitality to your favorite egg nog recipe and taste. Increase oil if you prefer a stronger flavor.

Orange Cranberry Sauce Add a few drops of Orange Vitality to your favorite cranberry sauce recipe.

Brownies: Use Peppermint, Orange, OR Lavender Vitality (not all 3 together, just pick one) Directions: Mix up regular brownie recipe and at end drop in EITHER 3-4 drops Peppermint Vitality , 5-6 drops Orange Vitality OR 1 drop Lavender Vitality. Bake as usual.

Lemon Bars: Add 4-6 drops of Lemon Vitality to your lemon bar batter before baking.

Lavender Cream Cheese and Strawberries:

1 package/block cream cheese + ½ C Organic Grade B maple Syrup + 1 drop Lavender Vitality. Mix together and add more maple sweetener if not sweet enough. Serve with strawberries.

Marinara Sauce: Add one drop each of Oregano, Black Pepper, and Basil Vitality to your favorite sauce recipe. If making a smaller batch then just dip your toothpick in the oil and swirl into your sauce, otherwise the spice (especially Oregano) will be too strong.

Guacamole: Add 6 drops lime essential oil to 3 mashed up avocados. Optional: add chopped tomatoes, garlic, onion, salt and pepper.

Let me know how if plan to incorporate essential oils into your holiday meals and how!
